Argonaut and Local Health System Address COVID-19 Sample Collection Shortage in San Diego
Carlsbad, CA, 10/21/20 – Argonaut Manufacturing Services (‘Argonaut’), a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) serving the life sciences, molecular diagnostics, and biopharma industries, today announced that they are working to supply the material needed for the San Diego community including UC San Diego Health and the San Diego County school districts for COVID-19 sample collection, commonly known as Viral Transport Media (VTM).
VTM’s stabilize the COVID-19 virus so that it can be transported to a laboratory for analysis. VTM’s are critical to detect COVID-19 and the supply chain has been susceptible to interruption.
To rapidly scale-up production of VTM, UC San Diego Health worked with Argonaut to match high volume capability requirements to meet the needs of their testing facilities.
“Argonaut was able to assemble our test kit components at a high volume, making more than 500,000 kits available, thus far, to help serve the San Diego community,” said Nick Worn, UC San Diego Health’s Distribution Program Manager.
